Annual Calender For Caring For You Lawn

Autumn/Winter

Get ready for the winter and give your lawn the best care to help it through the colder weather, tackle any moss that may be growing on the lawn, treat this with moss killer and once it is dead rake from the grass, prevent moss growing by removing lower branches/cut hedges to prevent shade. Increasing drainage can also help, do this by using a standard garden fork, push the fork into the ground as far as you can and wiggle back and forwards, repeat this every 10 cm accross the lawn. Give your lawn a good feed with an autumn lawn feed. Keep on top of clearing the leaves throughout the winter months to help keep the lawn drained and well maintained. Avoid walking on your lawn if there has been a frost as this also damages the grass.

Spring/Summer

At the start of the spring set the blade height to around 3cm and cut at this height once a week, once the grass starts to grow a bit faster then lower the blades to around 2cm and you may need to cut the lawn twice a week at this point. If a hose pipe ban is in place in your area or in long spells of dry weather then allow the grass to grow a little bit longer before cutting. You can improve the look of your lawn by caring for the edges also, once the lawn has been cut either use a set of shears or a strimmer to create a straight edge along the lawn. If your lawn suffers from lots of foot traffic then consider laying some paving stones, this is a simple thing that you can do yourself, remove the same size of turf as the paving stone and ensure that the stone sits level or just below the grass so it can be safely mowed over.
